Retail Diary: Sunday Scoop - Lots of fun styling articles and my summer essentials
Summer style is here! This Sunday you'll find new collabs, styling articles, substacks filled with style tips and new summer staples that have me excited for the warm weather.
Sunday Styles - styling and collabs reads for the end of the week.
Love how Madeline Schulz framed the brooches and bag charm trend as a luxury entry point. Brooches from fine jewelry brands aren’t necessarily entry price point (still an investment) but in designer brands or accessible luxury they can be priced well (see here and here.) Bag charms are a great entry into designer handbags. I love the personalization of both of these trends. See my bag charm edit here.
Ciao Lucia and Rixo partnered up on a collab. The collaboration came from a pre-existing personal relationship when the founders met years ago. They took elements from both their brands silhouettes and signature touches to create this 12 piece collection.
Saint Laurent x Ray-Ban partnered on an exclusive collaboration with 1750 limited numbered pieces. The Ultra Black Wayfarer has both logos and is designed with sharper edges and striking black details, including black metal rivets and black hinges.
New Sephora Launch! Fara Homidi’s viral lip compacts (along with the other items by Homidi’s namesake brand) and it has been granted the “Clean at Sephora” badge. I was excited to see they had the Nude 1 SKU as it has been out at Violet Grey, Goop and on their own site. I’m curious if the brand needed to hold back replenishing this inventory in other retailers so they could have a solid launch at Sephora.
An argument for buying less, but buying the thing you want vs trying to scratch the itch with a sub-par substitute. The other idea I’d throw in there is also investing the time in finding the item second hand.
- (Julia Rabinowitsch) has a CBK drop coming up and I saw her featured in two great pieces this week. First, from the Glossy Pop newsletter, Sara Spruch-Feiner wrote about the return of the flat lay and before I even opened the email I thought The Millennial Decorator impact!! Then, I also read the Into The Gloss feature of her Top Shelf. So many great finds. We share the same favorite blushes including Merit (I like Aprés the best), Westman Atelier (Rabinowitsch mentioned Petal which I also like and I wear Poppet) and the Chanel Cheek and Lip Balm.
Rachel Tashjian wrote “Why does everyone want to dress like Katie Holmes?” (gift link to read behind paywall) for the Washington Post on Holmes’ style as she is launching a collection with A.P.C. Founders Jean and Judith Touitou who have worked with Holmes and were inspired by her style and how she dresses up basics. Brie Welch is the stylist that Holmes currently works with, but I think a lot of the style that we love from Katie Holmes was also from her work with stylist Allison Bornstein. Like this iconic moment (gah! the article was written by
❤️) It’s how “effortlessly” Holmes wears her clothes. In the comments recently after writing about Paula’s Ibizia there was a great comment recommending Annie’s Ibiza. Here is a write up on styling from Annie’s Ibiza from NYTimes. “Where Zendaya and Kate Moss Go For A Dose of Ibiza Style” (gift link to read behind paywall.)
Pearls with Edge
WSJ published “Are Pearls Too Old-Fashioned for 2024? Not If You Wear Them This Way” (gift link to read behind paywall) and I love pearls with some edge. Great time to write a pearl article as June’s birthstone is the pearl (great SEO and organic search for pearl inspo now. Especially around graduation season too.) Here are a few pieces I love:
I would wear these safety pin earrings and pair it with these that I own for my earscape.
pearl cord with a variety of colors to choose from.
This baroque pearl drop with bezel set diamonds is beautiful. (I mean that description just sounds GAH!)
Mizuki bubble pearl bracelet is playful and has been on my Shopbop hearts.
double pearls are both edgy & classic at the same time.
Turquoise with a pearl drop make this summer ready
perfect starter pearl necklace or layer this with a chain (I wear this with this) or tennis necklace (I wear this.)
Love this via TRR from Marla Aaron and it can be styled a million way.
New summer buys I’m excited to wear
Last week I shared my summer essentials. Items I love every year and excited to wear again this year.
This week I’m sharing new purchases that have me excited for summer.
Sandal - I ordered these leather flip flops and love them. They feel like a step up for flip flops and I’ve already been wearing them to make my transitional clothing feel more summer-y.
Make-up - I received my Jones Road order and I’m loving the eye pencil!! It is so light, not cakey and just creamy enough to spread and cover-up quickly with no creases. Disappears and covers-up quickly. I’m sold on this item and love it.
Dress - The moment I tried on the Cosima from Hill House Home* (more inventory still available here)I knew it would be my summer black dress. The fit is great and I love the double slits. I took it to be altered as I needed a few inches taken off the bottom (I’m 5 ft 2) For a fun POP for summer, this limited edition version in red lace is a wow moment. I returned the Gap x Doen black shift dress because it was too boxy on me and the neck a little high. But I ended up getting the Doen shift and I love this! Will be perfect to dress up with the leather flip flops above but I will be wearing mostly as a cover-up to my favorite bathing suit and wearing my essential EVA Birkenstocks.
Pants - I have been wearing my Donni rib kick flares and High Sport non-stop but was looking for something a little light for summer. Flowy, breezy but still a pant. I was thrilled when I had the chance to try the silky pants from Donni*. They are being hemmed now and I will be wearing them a lot this summer. My favorite way to style is with a simple white tshirt. I love this one. (This style pant, a hybrid of a true pant and a lounge pant is super popular this summer. Similar vein to the popular trend of boxers as shorts.)
Lounge Pants - this was a category I hadn’t really played in. I have plenty of sweat pants that I love but when I tried cool pairs by Donni* and Negative* I’ve realized what was missing in my summer wardrobe. These are the pants I will lounge in all summer. Time at home, in the morning when I’m not ready to get dressed yet, and potentially for some road trips, these are perfect! I love the material. I also love that there are tops to pair with them. For the Donni I would go with this and for Negative I’m enjoying this bra* and would pair with this tank also.
Tank - The tank version of my favorite Doen top just arrived. I’ll be wearing this all summer.
Beach Bag - This is such a perfect bag for the beach as the sand will just shake out and you can rinse the bag. Of course I bought in black but the colors are great too. My mom snagged one on sale last weekend.
Cardigan - I love my Lean Lines Cardigan in Grey and La Ligne was kind enough to send me this one in black*. I’ve been pairing with my summer dresses for when I get cold indoors and throwing over my shoulders for evening. If you are looking for a more summer shade try this one. I find summer sweaters essential and great for travel too.
Any new purchases you’ve bought, love and want to share?
Substacks to Scroll:
- styled summer looks inspired by the best dressed men. Loving “Recreated Looks From My Unexpected Style Icons” on and many of us identified with how we want to dress for summer.
What a cool series.
interviewed Anna Newton from on her first purchase from Net-a-porter and a fun round-up inspired by her purchase from 2018.I’m enjoying the reads from
and this week she featured for the “What’s In” series. Another cool style series is “Behind Closet Doors” from by featuring (how cool that we are learning about so many people and how they approach style.)Huge fan of all these LA brands that
featured in “The L.A. Designer Revolution.” These brands stand out by running their businesses differently, avoiding traditional calendars and managing inventory thoughtfully. The
shares great tips for being an outfit repeater. I do this pretty regularly and consider myself a uniform dresser, but I want to try these style tips to mix it up some but still keep my favorite pieces in rotation. “Outfit Repeating Made Simple.”
🛍️ Quick note: I write a lot (too much good stuff to share!) so if you’re reading via email only, you may need to click through to the web version or read on the Substack app. I promise it will be worth it. 🛍️
A few new finds 🛍️
Added this great Jenni Kayne dress to my Gingham edit.
And added this Jil Sander to the East-West handbag edit. We will be wearing this handbag style well into fall.
Scarf tops have been spotted this season, but if you don’t want to get creative and tie yourself, this Nili Lotan bandana print is ready to go.
Ferragamo Hug bag in a cool raffia. This is a great way to bring texture to an outfit. It is gorgeous.
This Rotate Birger Christensen is a party dress for $400. It’s sequin recycled tulle and packs a punch.
P.S. How cool is this safety pin brooch you can personalize?!?!
Enjoy your Sunday Scoop. xx

Sarah if you've used the Merit foundation stick, how the Jones Road pencil compare? I'm always SO interested in those Jones Road pencils.
