We've completed the fashion week marathon! I rounded up the rest of PFW and a few other notes. I dug into a reader question on resale, collabs, launches, trend hunting and more.
Thanks for answering my question. That's such an interesting you point you make about these types of services focusing on owning the conversation and bringing people back into the customer journey. It did strike me as being a big lift for perhaps a small payoff. But it does really make the brand feel more like a community when pieces are being "recycled" through other people who love the brand.
I'm a big TRR/Vestiaire shopper but have yet to try Re-ligne/Doen—definitely curious to hear if others have had good or bad experiences with similar services!
Re-ligne has a dress I tried in store and loved but bought a different dress instead (and didn’t need two black maxis in one day) but I’m really considering it now at re-ligne. Should I go for it for research purposes?? 😆 I’m also a big TRR shopper but in some cases, like La Ligne, I think the brand (La Ligne) actually has better curation, pieces and feels like a more upscale experience.
I think it’s also a way of the brand controlling the resale of their brand from other platforms. For doen, I’ve had several friends sell back stuff when they get tired of items and get a substantial return, and then use the credit for buying more doen and feeling less guilty about spending the $ when they have the credits
Sarah, have you looked at Ulla Johnson’s Preloved site? I’ve resold items there. You post them, Ulla integrates original photos, and you control the price. If you take store credit, you get 100% of the purchase price. I’ve sold items on the RealReal, Poshmark, and Hand Me Doen, and compared to those, I feel like I’m getting a good ROI
And PS these are all great examples of how the program is working! We are talking about it and by owning the program directly they can be more customer centric to add details (like 100% of purchase price) to gamify it more and make it more engaging. I love talking about all this.
That's great that Ulla Johnson also does Preloved! I love the Ulla Johnson so I'll need to check this out. I thank you for sharing (but my wallet does not....)
I worked with Lupe at Net-a-Porter (so long ago I’m embarrassed to say! 🤣) she’s such a fun, smart and stylish woman. I’m so excited to see these experienced women who have DECADES of true Industry experince launch such fascinating new businesses.
Also - wearing pearls to bed - with a navy cashmere knit in winter is literally my 80yr old self of dreams 🤣🤣🤣 xC
Sarah, you are SO GOOD at curating! You’re my go-to source for fashion news I want to read all in one place!
Thank you! Means so much - and today I challenged myself beyond wearing all black with a non-color color paired with it inspired by you.
Hooray! More non-colour colours coming up!

Yes to shopping in the name of research 😆
Ahh Teresa I love that you asked about this - fascinating stuff! Hadn’t heard of Re-Ligne…
Agree. Teresa had such a great question!

Yes. It is a brilliant way to keep the consumer engaged and increase the lifetime value.
Love Danielle Goldberg's styling vibe. The recent NYT profile of her is worth a read, also. You just reminded me to consider tuning into the Oscars!
Yes! And in tomorrow’s substack I’m sharing more Danielle Goldberg content. She is so talented!

The business sounds fantastic and I’m sure it was a wonderful experience to work with her. And I’m 🤞🏻you get to live out your dreams!
you are too kind, sarah!!! the love is mutual.
Your writing also helps me understand and connect with my 10 year old. She came to me with skincare videos and we are having fun viewing together.
