Retail Diary: Sunday Scoop - DVF, fashion podcasts and cool content
Read, listen and open millions of tabs.
Sunday Styles - where we close out the week with some fun fashion moments.
Can’t wait to watch Diane Von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge. It is currently part of the Tribeca Film Festival and will be on Hulu starting June 25th. If you are feeling the love for DVF, check out these vintage wrap dresses (still can’t believe my mom got rid of hers) red, long cuff sleeve, iconic zebra, and a major deal on Thredup. (It would be fun to watch the documentary with a bunch of friends all dressed up in DVF.) Maureen Dowd interviewed DVF over the course of two days and the stories are incredible. “Diane von Furstenberg Has No Regrets: ‘I Will Laugh When I Die’” (gift link to read behind paywall) and the additional series of “Confirm or Deny” answers can be found here.
Really great gift idea - I love that Lingua Franca launched sweatshirts. Broadcast your opinions wearing with pride.
Alexandra Hildreth wrote for Marie Claire about the impact of TikTok to the fashion industry, trends and what could potentially happen, mostly for smaller niche brands, if TikTok goes away. “Does Fashion Need TikTok?”
Love the convergence of WNBA + Fashion + Business Strategy as Rory Satran writes about in the WSJ “All Eyes Are on the WNBA—and Its Off-Court Fashion” (gift link to read behind paywall.)
DVF via NYTimes - and if you love the crossword print check out this wrap dress, this scarf, the jumpsuit or this maxi dress.
Fashion Podcasts
I listened to a bunch this week. Here is what I recommend:
If you are looking to refresh your summer style with a wrong shoe or how to select sunglasses for your style: Allison Bornstein was busy this week! She spoke with
and on Lipstick on the Rim. I really loved the questions asked Allison Bornstein on Too Niche podcast about finding accessories for your summer style. There is also a Substack read with all the great links. Listen here: “Summer Accessory Trends”For a listen about an accessory brand you want to learn more about: Jenny Bird is on the Glossy podcast and shared about her entrepreneurial journey and building a DTC focused accessories brand. Last week I shared some edgy pearl finds and this ring is perfect for that trend and I love the shell pearl drop earrings too. This summer feels like a return to cool anklets, and so smart of Jenny Bird to sell with an extension to get the ideal fit. The Monogram necklace is a go to gift but if you don’t know where to start, the ecommerce site has the Top 20 which is so brilliant to make first time customers have a great shopping experience.
To hear about a bootstrapped fashion start-up that is really popular right now and is inspired by vintage dresses: Rixo Co-Founder Henrietta Rix spoke with Kat Collings from Who What Wear about how she and Orlagh McCloskey launched the business right out of London College of Fashion (such a fun connection - I studied Fashion Design at London College of Fashion for a semester and was blown away by the Professors there) and to stretch their little budget they helped the pattern maker with pleating, etc. This is also a great listen to learn more about their recent collab with LA based brand Ciao Lucia and as they recently tested brick and mortar in the US with a pop-up in Soho. I’ve had this dress on my radar (polka dots and it comes petite too!) and if you believe that leopard is a neutral (it is) please check this dress out!
If you believe in slow, thoughtful fashion and love the story behind a brand/product: I’m a fan of Chava and the story of founder Olivia Villanti. Villanti was interviewed by
on Creative Juicy this week “44: Tailoring each and every detail with Chava Studio’s Olivia Villanti.” If you are in the NYC area make sure you check out her Trunk Show June 14th-15th.If you want to hear two Vogue editors chat as soon as they heard about Virginie Viard leaving Chanel: check out the latest The Run-Through with Vogue podcast and you’ll also hear an interview with Katie Holmes and Judith Touitou on the new A.P.C. collaboration.
cool content
Shopbop nailed this “short girl problems” content on how to style and wear denim if you are petite. It is done really well and highlights Mother Denim. Here are the pieces they showcased and I immediately hearted this and this and I own (and love) this belt that they used in styling.
The serendipitous moment of having this mini clutch ready to go. I think we all want a “tomato girl summer” now. WWD article on the viral Loewe moment here. Wondering if the tomato clutch was truly organic.
I loved this content of Tracee Ellis Ross and Gwyneth Paltrow shopping in Target (one question asked them to pick out an item to take to Oprah’s house) but the reel was taken down from Instagram (not sure why.) Bummer. I found a People write up on it here. It was well done and featured Ross talking about her line Pattern and Paltrow sharing good.clean.goop.
🛍️ Quick note: I write a lot (too much good stuff to share!) so if you’re reading via email only, you may need to click through to the web version or read on the Substack app. I promise it will be worth it. 🛍️
collabs
Can’t wait until the Deep Dive Thursday - here are a few collabs to chat about now
Kylie Cosmetics is launching at Target via their Ulta partnership. The tease was well done and I especially was 👀 at the comment by pink Victoria’s Secret “This looks right up our alley. 🤔 We’re absolutely seated for this collab. 🤩” What I’m most curious about is if this is to help Ulta move through more product because they aren’t moving enough currently??
Vacation is part of the cult Erewhon Smoothie for this month. Huge marketing program for the grocery store and great brand awareness for the celebs and brands that participate.
Zendaya x On Running which makes sense given the Loewe x On Running partnership and post Challengers press (should they have announced earlier?) Zendaya drives massive MIV1 for brands so it is money well spent. You can shop the Zendaya edit here.
Launching June 10th, Laneige has a new lip mask in watermelon and it is unclear, but seems to be in partnership with Poppi. (Do we think they aren’t leaning in to the partnership more because of this?)
PSA
15% off Skinceuticals starts on June11th at Dermstore. I’m stocking up on this (forever repurchase for me.)
Major sale at Bluemercury - up to 30% off with code SUMMER and as a buy more save more event, now is the time to stock up or purchase a device (ex. Dyson) (they carry SkinCeuticals too.) I’d fill a cart with: OSEA (I love and need to reorder this and have been wanting to try their new body serum) and try the Augustinus Bader x Sofia Coppola lip balm (I’m trying Shade 1.) I’m pretty stocked in sunscreen at the moment but if you need, I reco Supergoop! and EltaMD. I wear and love both.
Westman Atelier launched 2 new shades of their popular Baby Cheeks Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick in Coquette (a cool pink) and Garconne (a mauve).
Dorsey launched the James Bezel tennis necklace in a new 3mm smaller size. Great starter size or layering piece.
Place your preorder now: linen pants + stripes from Donni and mix up some metals with Dorsey - the Clemence in silver and gold coated silver is available for pre-order now and ships next month.

Lucky us that
wrote about her Etsy rabbit hole to discover some fun finds.- wrote a beautiful style piece about the accessories that can define us and I found it so sweet. “Your Favorite Accessory is Already On You” (read the comments too)
- is one of the bloggers/influencers/creators I’ve followed for a long time. Ahead of my trip to Paris last summer I bought her Paris Guide and it was money well spent. Thrilled to see she launched Habitually Chic 2.0 on Substack because as I’ve spent more time on this platform I’ve spent less time reading blogs. I really appreciate HC’s taste, cultural commentary and travel recommendations around Europe especially. Great art/museum recommendations too.
I 100% agree with
statement here “Cassandra Grey is Nothing Short of Iconic.” Cassandra Grey’s taste is epic as you can tell by so many of the brands that she identifies that blow up. I also took note of her mentioning these sneakers and then .@databutmakeitfashion sharing the insights that they have increased in popularity 55% everyday this week.Freda Salvador co-founder
joined Substack and has an incredible packing edit for anyone looking to pare down. “1 SHOE, 1 BAG, 14 PIECES, 10 DAYS, 1 CARRY ON. LET'S GO.” for 3 cities! wow. Her essentials are the new Freda Salvador raffia fisherman (a fantastic summer shoe - especially for walking around while traveling!) and the Elodie crescent bag from the brand. I’m also really into all the items/brands that made her edited cut. So important when you edit down for travel that the pieces are great quality and special pieces you love.
Enjoy your Sunday Scoop. xx

Hi Sarah (if I may), I'm new to substack. Can you recommend anything with a focus on fashion history?
I don’t know how you do it!! It’s like you have a million ears and eyes spotting all the best stuff! I am an Allison Bornstein stan so I’m excited to listen to her!
