Also while I just turned 40 this year I went through early menopause and think there is a GAPING hole in that market for beauty and skin as you are going through all kinds of insane changes. I’ve seen more chatter about it on various D2C and IG brands but someone has to address it more thoroughly and with good branding

100% agree. I've seen a lot of brands starting to emerge and pay attention to perimenopause and "pro-aging" or other terms. Women don't want to be pandered to, don't want gimmicks, want products that work and speak to them with authenticity, authority and trustworthy inspirational advice. (hey brands!! big opportunity here - listen up)

At 55, and having reported on beauty, fashion and wellness for over a decade with the mission of changing the narrative of aging, I promise you there are so many brands that have emerged in beauty (and skincare) that are speaking to women over 45 — we definitely have far to go, but because they are not often big budgeted brands (or very selective in targeting messages), they remain under the radar unless you are entrenched in the category.

Some fantastic founders I have interviewed and/or brands I have used include Womeness, Naomi Watt's Stripes, Editrix, YSE Beauty, Jones Road and Iris & Romeo. Westman Atelier is spectacular but I have not used enough to comment on it. Here is a link to The Quality Edit where many of the articles appear: https://www.thequalityedit.com/authors/christine-morrison.

Hope this helps!

Love your writings!! I ordered my daughter some button down and matching shorts and slacks from Djerf Avenue. Reasonably priced. What are your thoughts. Also, would love to see more summer dresses with at least short sleeves, for those of us with aging skin on arms!😂

I love my button down shirt and shorts from Djerf Avenue from.a few years ago. I’ve washed/worn/ironed them many times over and they’ve held up really well

I think Djerf Avenue is doing a great job with styling, merchandise and marketing. I haven't tried personally so I can't speak to the quality yet. (Anyone else who has feel free to chime in and let us know!)

Summer dresses with short sleeves - there are some great ones. I love La Ligne and have been wearing the Andrea Dress and love (it has a slimmer straight skirt - the Andie Dress for them has a more full skirt but I'm only 5ft 2 and it was a bit much for me.) I put together a mini round-up here. Have fun checking some out. https://shopmy.us/collections/600738

Wow go Ali Bornstein she really blew up. I guess girls need to put a b and c together. It’s strategic and smart but as a Pisces I get dressed to how I feel. Not sure if it’s right or wrong but I always enjoy a little wrinkle. Great job Sarah loved the Chanel rundown ❤️

How many pairs of red pants have I ordered and tried (and have hearted on the RealReal…) in my current search for the perfect pair? Too many to count! I’m hoping the pair of Victoria Beckham that I just ordered will be it. Thank you for justifying my obsession 😂

The section on Chanel is so informative - thanks for sharing! We've seen similar "mini" blushes from Westman Atelier, Nudestix, and Merit - I wonder how these will feel in comparison? How many blushes in the marketplace is too many blushes? 😂

about 2 years ago I only had 1 blush and had been wearing the same one for 20 years (nars orgasm) now, i've got almost as many blushes as I have lipsticks and glosses. glad our cheeks are getting as much love as our lips. I saw another person breakdown the nudestix applicator and was really impressed. the rhode one looks a little chunky for a small stick (I love the feel of the westman atelier and the size) but i'll have to check out rhode IRL soon.

Great read today! Also, when did button down shirts get SO expensive?! ha Have a great day Sarah!

thanks Lori! xx

for button downs, you can still find great ones at various price points - I see this more of we finally have more options especially for mid range, accessible, appropriately priced (which I see as both well priced and well made) and then of course the luxe end. I don't think the other price points have completely gone away. some other great options are AYR, Soldout.nyc, alex mill, j. crew and madewell.

Really enjoyed reading your thoughts. One thought I had about the Rhode blushes was that i wish the packaging was slimmer if they’re going to advertise them as pocket blushes OR if they really wanted to do the chunky packaging I wish they made them refillable. Love the marketing otherwise

Was influenced by Courtney for the red pants already! Already wearing them happily this summer and will continue well into fall! Was looking at the Still Here New York pair but might need the COS red pants now!
