I was so excited for Gap x Doen but didn't love it either - it was disappointing that some of the items were already sold out and the pieces looked a little basic...I didn't end up ordering anything.
Sarah, I'm constantly served Jones Road ads on Facebook, have you seen all the complaints? Women not happy that they are not able to choose the shades they want, apparently the most popular shades are only in the large pack? They are Big Mad. Someone commented that there is a woman on some site that is making her own Miracle Balm minis (I assume she is buying the big ones and portioning them out) for less than Jones Road charges.
Also, they had a terrible GWP, literally a muslin drawstring bag (as opposed to an actual cosmetic bag with samples) with a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR purchase? It's surprising to me that they are not reading the comments, since every time the ad resurfaces the comments do as well.
Brilliant point that they need to read the comments. Will be interesting to see if the Black Friday mini drop goes back to letting the customer select their own shades. And oh my a rogue reseller of minis? That is wild!! That is a great point for the brand to know that is happening and consider offering year round. You want to own that vs people creating a secondary market that could dilute quality and therefore damage your brand. Thanks for sharing.
LOOOOVE my jones road face pencil and miracle balm!! Walked into the store last year to test out the foundation and instead walked out with the pencil which nearly immediately got so many compliments on my “glowing skin” from friends, and it nudged me to grab some miracle balm minis (my only Black Friday purchase!) and 6 months later I am still obsessed. Some of the only makeup I bother with right now, and always in the travel bag. I did pick a few colors which was nice, shame that’s not an option now.
Yes, it must be costing them money somewhere along the line to offer choices but I have to say that having the option made me much more willing to buy! I got to try 3 shades (got two au naturals), and the one I was most excited about is the one I never use, while the one I use every day is a total wild card ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is the great part about discovery and the brand picking sometimes. I’m actually curious if they keep in stock (the minis) in the store or if you can pick your own set there. That would be a great opportunity and experience for in store.
definitely disappointed by the gap x doen drop. and while it was nice to do an early drop, there didn’t seem to be a strategy around why. loewe just dropped a collab with on athletics, and you could pre-shop a day early if you registered online…so smart.
also really bummed about mara hoffman. i could always find cute colorful pieces from her that didn’t cost 💸
So much good stuff today - wonder what’s going to happen w Mara Hoffman! Glad she’s taking a break but sad if she doesn’t come back!
I agree. Happy for a break and hope that gives her freedom to create in a new way. Or collab somewhere even if more luxe vs mass.

Super curious if it was a back-end decision or marketing decision to not do choose your own.

Intrigued by the Miracle Balms - how cute is that brown paper bag packaging?
I know. I’ve been wanting to try and this is a great time.
Gap x Doen launch felt wildly chaotic!! But they did generate a TON of buzz, if that was their goal...
And likely brought a lot of Doen customers their way.
So true!
