The beauty trends timeline was such a fun scroll! Lip Smackers were my Pokemon cards growing up!

So many Lip Smackers. But also, they are still sold a lot so while they were a major trend I still see them around regularly

I hate to fact check the NYT, but as a child of the 70s, I used Love's Baby Soft (started in 1974, not the 80s) and my mother used Sun In on my brother's already blonde hair "to keep it that way" in the summer in the early 70s. Otherwise a fun article saying "I remember that"!

Ooh, I’ve been putting polka dots in the neutrals category for a while now! A staple in my pretty minimal and mostly monochrome wardrobe and always the first to catch my eye on an overflowing charity shop rack

They are so eye catching! And yes - a neutral.

Saks going appointment only in SF is sooo tough

Agree. It’s just feels so odd. A “public” shopping space as appointment only? Turning customers away??

Re: the frame barrel jeans, especially now that I know you are 5’2 (like me!) how do you find the length / inseam? I love the barrel shape but almost always have to hem pants, and worry I’ll distort the shape somehow. Would love your thoughts, thanks!

The length was fine. BUT! I’m wearing higher up I’m sure. They are “low slung” but that isn’t for me. I don’t need hemmed as they are and can wear with flats. If I took a looser size I would need to hem. These are not exaggerated so I think it is fine to hem. I think the barrel jeans with the dart below the knee are harder for petites/difficult to hem without ruining the shape.

I’ve never met a stripe I didn’t love. Polka dots are a distant 2nd. With plaids and gingham tied for 3rd

The left on Fridays rugby would have been mine if I hadn’t just got one from America Giant.

Love American Giant too. I might be ready to venture into polka dots. Stripes are the only pattern I wear but I wear them a lot!!

Thanks for the shout-out, Sarah! The WWD article about Saks San Francisco is behind a paywall, dammit; here's a free SF Examiner article about the new appointment-only policy, which takes effect August 28: https://www.sfexaminer.com/news/business/saks-fifth-avenue-union-square-store-to-require-appointments/article_43ab8536-4614-11ef-aeb0-ef58a29e3be6.html

Such an interesting pivot i’ll be watching. Also, do you still get to wander and shop by yourself? If I bring friends do they get to come along too?

I think you'll all have to have appointments. As for wandering, I don't know—maybe I'll make an appointment myself and see what it's like. I haven't been inside that Saks since pre-Covid.
