Ooo, the history of the Nordstrom sale! The strategy of marking down new and next season merchandise is brilliant, but I feel like so much of the product in the sale is very trend focused (with the exception of beauty and pajamas). Are you *really* getting as good of a deal as you think you are if you're only going to wear it for one season? It took me so long to reach this mindset. I used to get swept away by each influencer's haul and must-have from the sales!

Agree. This is where also having my own personal wishlist has helped too. If an item isn't on my wishlist, and I didn't want before the event, how much will I wear/do I need??

Sarah, I'm curious what The Row had to say about the Mara jelly flat breaking so quickly. Were customers able to return them, or were they out the money? And how did people feel (if you know) about the poor quality, considering other brands didn't fall apart?

The Row and other retailers where they were purchased have taken back and refunded with proof of purchase and within their windows. I’ve also heard of using credit cards to dispute (ex Amex support). I think they are handling it appropriately but if it was my brand I would take the product off the shelves, not restock and make a statement that I’m going to resolve before I’m comfortable selling again.

such a great post…love hearing the backstory of the anniversary sale

also the vintage vs original is something i’ve been thinking about too in the wake of balenciaga bringing back the moto bag. the leather on the originals was unmatched and there were so many size and color variations. why pay close to $3k when the vintage city bag can be found for much less (i’ve seen them for under $1000)

Agree. I wonder if the proliferation of sales now in general has also impacted the excitement over the Nordstrom sale.
